IRS Reminds Teachers to Save Receipts

Under current law (which is scheduled to expire at the end of 2005), educators may subtract from AGI up to $250 of qualified expenses. The deduction is available to eligible educators. Who is an eligible educator, you may ask. An eligible educator is someone who works at least 900 hours during a school year as a teacher, instructor, counselor, principal, or aide. If you qualify keep records of qualified expenses by noting the date of purchase and an item description on your receipts.
